About Us

ADLER’s Professional Coaching certificate program has been the leader in the field since it was introduced in 1998. With our broad focus, ADLER trains professional coaches to work across industries and settings. ADLER coaches learn a wide variety of practical coaching techniques based in ideas drawn from Adlerian theory, positive psychology, appreciative management, contemporary organizational development, and transformative adult education.

In 2002 the certificate program was the first in Canada to be reviewed and designated as an Accredited Coach Training Program by the International Coach Federation (ICF).  The ICF is the largest, globally recognized organization that provides both accreditation for coach training providers and certification for professional coaches.


WHAT IS COACHING?

The ICF defines Coaching as “to partner with clients in a thought provoking & creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”.  At ADLER we see coaching as a profession that distinguishes itself by helping people discover how to bring their choices and actions more in line with their goals. Facilitating change in either a personal or professional setting. 

WHY ADLER?

The ADLER coaching program takes an appreciative, strength-based approach to generating positive change. An ADLER coach sees an individual as creative resourceful and whole, supporting positive change in both individuals and organizations.  At ADLER we stress experiential, hands‐on, applied learning. We believe you must use the skills to own them. From day one of the Foundations course, and through‐out the certificate program, you will coach under the supervision of faculty, so that you will personify the coaching paradigm, and DO as well as KNOW coaching.  From the outset of the program, participants are expected to coach and be coached, bringing their own real life issues to the learning process. In addition to learning how to coach, participants engage in a parallel personal learning journey.  ADLER’s program consists of in class modules, where participants engage in hands on application of coaching, supported by teleclasses and online workshops. We feel that nothing can replace personal contact as an aid to learning and for the adult learner experiential, application of knowledge is critical.  Our main facilities are located in downtown Toronto, Canada and the ADLER program is taught internationally in the United States, United Kingdom, Turkey, Scandinavia, and continues to expand.

ACCREDITATION & CREDENTIALS 

Schools who have the ICF designation as an Approved Coach Training Program (ACTP) or Accredited Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH) must undergo a “rigorous review process and demonstrate to the ICF that the curriculum aligns with the ICF definition of coaching, core competencies & code of ethics” 

For individuals the ICF has three levels of credentaling:

  • Accredited Certified Coach (ACC) – The Practiced Coach.  Requires sixty hours of Accredited Coach Specific Training (ACSTH) from an International Coach Federation (ICF) certified training program. Plus ten hours of mentor coaching.
  • Professional Certified Coach – PCC, The Proven Coach.  Requires completing the entire (125 hours of training) training program from an Accredited Certified Coach Training Program, (ACTP) which includes successfully passing the capstones required to graduate from the program.  
  • Master Certified Coach – MCC, The Expert Coach.  200 hours of coach‐specific training. 10 hours of Mentor Coaching

Upon successful completion of the ADLER - ICF Accredited Certificate Training Program (Foundations of Professional Coaching, Context of Work, Artful Coaching and Practicum) students are distinguished as an ATC – "ADLER Trained Coach".  ADLER students who also successfully past the ADLER ACPC exam, will be graduating with the ACPC designation "ADLER Certified Professional Coach".  Graduation as an ACPC satisfies requirements for ICF’s entry level credential (ACC – Associate Certified Coach), which may be obtained by providing your proof of graduation, your log of 100 hours (no more than 25 pro bono), along with ICF’s application and fee. The only additional requirement for ICF certification is the ICF’s CKA, written exam.

When you have reached 500 hours of coaching, you may apply for ICF’s PCC (Professional Certified Coach) credential. Just provide your proof of graduation from ADLER, again and your log of additional hours. Graduation from our program meets all requirements for PCC, except the 500 hours of experience that you need to log.

PATHWAYS TO CERTIFICATION

ADLER COACHING TRAINING PROGRAM

ADLER- Faculty of Coaching offers two pathways towards ICF credentialing. The Approved Coach Training Program (ACTP) and the Accredited Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH).  Both of these pathways lead towards the ACC designation (Accredited Certified Coach). The difference lies mainly in the number of training hours that are required and in the depth of training that occurs during the Practicum component of the ACTP pathway.

Coach Training Packages

The Essential Coach

Foundations + Core Competencies + Virtual Mentor Coaching
$4689+HST 62 hours of Coach Specific Training and 10 hours of mentor coaching

This is the essential package for individuals looking to fulfil the minimum training requirements for the first level of ICF credentialing - Accredited Certified Coach (ACC) or for anyone adding coaching to their existing role.  The package provides a solid understanding of the coaching competencies and professional, ethical, practice required by the International Coach Federation. (ICF) . Basic, yet robust, the typical time frame to complete this package is approximately 6 months.  Following the Foundations module, you can begin coaching towards the 100 client coaching hours, that, along with your training and mentor coaching hours, will fulfil the ICF requirement for taking the Coach Knowledge Assessment exam (CKA).

The Advanced Coach

Foundations + Context of Work + Artful Coaching
$4832+HST 92 Hours of Coach Specific Training

The Advanced Coach Training package provides an additional 30 hours of coach specific training beyond the minimum required by ICF for the ACC credential.  Providing, more coaching practice, more feedback on your coaching and a clearer understanding of how to best use these skills in your workplace and in day to day living.  You will learn many additional tools:  How to use metaphors, the inner self processing system and experience enhanced coaching exercises, as well as giving and receiving feedback, with a greater emphasis on workplace coaching.  This package also allows you to take your coaching to an even greater depth if you choose to, by adding the Practicum at a later date.

The Expert Coach

Foundations + Context of Work + Artful Coaching + Practicum
$8382+HST 140 hours of Coach Specific Training

The Expert package is for individuals who are looking to become skillful and expert professional coaches. Individuals who would be seeking the ICF credentials of Accredited Certified Coach (ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and Master Certified Coach (MCC). 

The Expert Coach package includes the three modules in the Advance Program, plus an additional 48 hours of training in the Practicum component, a total of 140 hours of coach specific training.

The practicum is an 8-month Program with multiple components designed to enhance your coaching competences and transitions the student into the world of an active coaching practitioner.   Seven hours of group mentor coaching is experienced in Practicum which can be counted towards the ICF credentialing requirements. 

Upon successful completion of Practicum, students are distinguished as an ATC – ADLER Trained Coach.

Coach Training Courses

 COA-301 Foundations of Professional Coaching – 30 training hours - $1895 + HST

The FOUNDATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL COACHING offers a rigorous grounding in the ADLER coaching model through an interactive, stimulating environment of hands-on coaching. The course introduces the foundational concepts, models and processes associated with the ADLER approach to professional coaching, and anchors students in the coaching mindset while practicing the core competencies of professional coaching. Skills taught in this course serve as an integrative foundation throughout training for certification. In addition, students are introduced to intentional change theory – why and how sustainable desired change can occur at all levels of human and social interaction. Role-play, peer coaching, and experiential exercises underline the importance of awareness of self and others required to develop strong coach-client relationships for sustainable change.

Our Foundations module (COA‐301) is “Risk Free”* ‐ If you feel you are not able to use any of the skills you have learnt in our Foundations module, and coaching is not for you, we will refund your tuition. To be eligible, you must submit a written withdrawal form to the Registrar within seven days of completing the Foundations Module.

COA-302 Coaching in the Context of Work – 30 training hours - $1895 + HST

COACHING CONVERSATION IN THE CONTEXT OF WORK explores the individual in the context of systems, and how coaching supports people in their work and lives. This course substantially expands the students coaching skills while also providing a deeper understanding of the place of work in people’s lives and of the impact of coaching in the workplace. The added tools and practices included in this course enhance proficiency in use of the core coaching competencies applied in the work environment.

COA-303 Moving Toward Artful Coaching – 30 training hours - $1895

MOVING TOWARDS ARTFUL COACHING (30 hours over 5 days) focuses on integrating learning, enhancing and deepening the ability to coach artfully and creatively. It provides exposure to and experience with a range of tools and processes to deepen coaching effectiveness. Students will be coaching through the lens of leadership, an integrative theme for many coaching engagements (in both life and work).  It includes modules on: Metaphor as a tool for exploration and transformation, Creativity and its many expressions for both coach and client, Leadership and its role in coaching, and Intuition and its use in coaching and growing yourself, growing your practice.

COA-304 Practicum – 48 training hours - $4050

Practicum is designed to provide students with an opportunity to consolidate and deepen the learning from Foundations, Coaching in the Context of Work, and Moving Towards Artful Coaching.  Practicum counts as 48 hours of instruction within a 6 month period, meeting as a group one day per month.

Practicum Supervisors/Faculty must be accredited at the PCC or MCC level – International Coach Federation Credentials.

The practicum combines a wide variety of learning experiences. These include:

  • practical application of coaching principles and skills through coaching
  • personal reflection on coaching experience
  • peer mentoring and feedback
  • mentoring and feedback from experienced mentor coaches
  • experience the coaching process from a client’s perspective

While most elements of the practicum are pre-designed, there is some flexibility built into the process. This allows each student to focus on her/his individual learning objectives and to adapt to in-the-moment learning and individual practical needs. Practicum is offered as a face-to-face or virtual classroom experience that transitions the student into the world of an active coaching practitioner, and serves as a powerful incubator for skill development.

During practicum, students become active coaching practitioners. Students receive feedback on their coaching through supervision from faculty, and share their learning through case studies and labs. They also received 7 hours of Mentor Coaching in a group setting.

COA-302A Core Competencies of Professional Coaching – 30 training hours - $2095

The central theme of the Core Competencies course is choice: the world provides us with great opportunity for choice, and also challenges us greatly around choice. We trust that during the course of the week you will be expanding your understanding of choice and related aspects such as responsibility, freedom, impact, and constraints on choice. We hope that you will begin to see how you can build your own and your clients’ capacity for being in choice around things that matter, at work and in life.

The secondary theme of the week is Trust-in-Self. We will explore the importance that Trust-in-Self plays in our development as coaches and how it connects with leadership and the Adler method of coaching.

ADDITIONAL COURSES:

 Coaching Strategies, Competencies and Skills for Leaders  - $599

The purpose of this program is to provide leaders with the foundational skills to build better relationships and conduct effective coaching conversations. This program provides an in-depth focus on the mindset, skills and competencies involved in the coaching process.

Thru the course of the two days participants will:

  • Be introduce the coaching framework and create awareness of how it can be applied in the workplace.
  • Acquire the skills necessary to raise awareness of the mindset, limiting beliefs, assumptions and other barriers that get in the way performance.
  • Be provided with opportunities to practise the tools, competencies and skills of coaching.
  • Engage in an action-planning personal accountability process which will increase the potential to produce desired results.

 Mentor Coaching Program – 10 Mentor coaching hours - $999

The ICF ‘s defines mentoring as, “a student being coached on their coaching skills rather than on practice building, life balance or other topics unrelated to the development of a student’s coaching skill.”  The ADLER Mentor Coaching program is designed to give students support and feedback.  Developing and enhancing their Coaching presence as well as Coaching skills using the ICF core competencies. This is done in both a group (7 hours) and individual (3 hour) setting.

  Coaching with the Brain in Mind - $599

In this 2-day program, students will utilize theories from neuroscience to understand the development of brain‐based skills that support coaching competencies. By learning how the brain works in the context of decision‐making and problem solving, participants will possess greater knowledge, awareness and skills to assist in developing the potential of their teams.  Learn to leverage change in a collaborative environment that will also lead to personal growth and development for the coach.

 Team Coaching: A Living Systems Approach™ - $1500

Prerequisite: 30 hours of coach specific training from an accredited coaching school, OR group facilitation training and experience. 

The program utilizes the Living Systems Approach ‐ an “emergent process” process that transforms groups and teams through conversations and experiential activities. Systems Approach ‐ an “emergent process” process that transforms groups and teams through conversations and experiential activities. Participants will discover the guidelines and principles of the team coaching model,  enhancing their ability to develop coaching materials that will create synergy, engagement and improve performance. Learn how to use tools to support coaching conversations with groups and teams, to experience firsthand the challenges and opportunities of the process of change.
